I knew I recognized the 3rd place entry! It's one of the "How to" section of Style School vol. 1. Knew I'd remember it.

And I would love another contest, especially an animal themed one. And I think we should tweak the rules a bit to allow fanart but not exact replicas of a picture or part of a picture. Speaking of, who were those girls anyway? I can't recall seeing them before....

And no more Chiis. God, am I tired of seeing fanarts of her. I know the artists who drew those pictures are talented and all, and Chii is really just an over sized Loli, but can't we draw mass amounts of fanart of someone else? Seriously people. So, uh, no Chiis. Maybe?

Anyway, I'm probably just mad because I utterly fail at fanart. Oh! Maybe I can draw Kei for the contest. hooray for my catboy with pink pants and rainbow socks.

I think what genten is getting at is that, for next year, we will probably tweak the rules to make it an original art only contest: You could still draw fanart of charaters from manga and the like, you could still look at pictures to give yourself a reference or inspiration, but the image should be your own in the end; you won't be able to copy it exactly or semi-exactly -i.e. create your own pose, situation, etc. for the art. So you could still do Kekaishi (or Kekashi cats ) Neko.

ha- I was recently looking at the Kekkaishi manga (not Naruto related)...and my brain apparently tried to do a combination between the two spellings.

Besides the fact that I was annoyed when I typed that last post, I think Nerd-kun said what I was getting at. So, when can we expect this new contest, neh?

The next official "CPL Manga Drawing Contest" like this last one will be at the end of summer '09 sometime. There are some plans in the works to make it even better. We may extend it out for all ages too and add a couple different age brackets wtih prizes for each group, just because we had a lot of peoples' younger siblings enter this year.
Also, I'd love to get one of the more famous or semi-famous webcomic creators out there to be a guest judge, but that's still in the works, so we'll see.

The next "Manga Mission", however, I think we'll start mid-January sometime- so soon! Keep ideas coming for this if you have more thoughts for what would be cool.
