Actually all the entries are up (finally). I apologize for the delay for those of you who were waiting. Check 'em out in the gallery. All of the entreis were amazing. I wish we could have given like 12 places instead of 3.

I just wanted to express a little bit of my opinion ^^;
I noticed that there were a few entries obviously copied from manga or books.
This kind of made me sad, that people decided to use someone else's idea, maybe tweak a few things, color it, and pass it off as original art.
Though I'm not doubting the artistic talent of the participants in the contest, I would suggest that in the future art should be original... not copied from a book, even if it's not actually "tracing".

you mean people who drew other characters freehand? like i think there were a few chii pics in there.

now what about what i did, the akatsuki members as cats in my own style thats looks nothing like the actual characters. would that count as original or not?

Well, it's hard to say there...
Like Brad said, there may be many many many sources for a pic, and some could be obscure etc etc etc.
It would be downright unnecessary to attempt to check every single piece of art, and it's obvious that artists would try to portray fan-art characters in their original style to fit the personality of the character better. Of course it would be near impossible to physically make sure that each piece of art was 100% original, and similarly art IS influence.
Maybe this isn't a physical change that needs to be made, but just a little inclusion in the rules perhaps? (It might already have been in the rules... I'm sorry I didn't do my research before bringing the point up haha)
It would justify the playing field a little I presume? ^^

though i will admit i got the idea after watching a akatsuki flash on youtube at 1 in the morning then i stayed up till 4 drawing it cause i was so inspired

You do bring up a good point Kaze-hime and we are going to modify the rules for next year along those lines. Drawings of an already established character would still be fine, as long as the art was original. -I wanted to add that the drawings that may have used a source to draw from this year were still very very nicely done, very well executed. But, you are right that i think it would be better for next year if we perhaps make an amendment to the rules about this, to make things fairer, to make it so the judges don't have to worry about tracking down original sources for things (hopefully) as much, and can just judge the art on its own merrit, and, well, beacuse we want to see your original take on things too.

I thought we'd give a little bit of space before the next manga mission, since we just had the drawing contest. But, I think maybe mid-January sometime we'll start it back up.
