just wondering if anybody on the site is a fan of yaoi, BL, or shounen-ai

You had me at 'yaoi'. Mwahaha, I've been a fan of BL ever since I was ten...If I remember it twas a blistery summer day...Er, getting off that.

It's good to know that at least there is someone who likes BL that goes to the meetings (although Mel-Chan may disagree).

Question: What's the difference between the three?

I'm a bit of a homophobe, so I'm not terribly fond of them, but I just wondered... It seems like the terms are used kind of interchangeably though.

BL = "Boy's Love" i think it's just fluff
shounen-ai = i think this is interchangeable with BL, but i may be wrong. XP

yeah, some people think that yaoi is the same as BL and shouen-ai, but they soon realize that it's not haha... i didn't know that until i was like... 12? 13?

'BL' is the term used most in Japan. Where as 'Yaoi' relates to the more pornographic side, and Shounen-ai is the 'lighter' side, BL encompasses the whole genre (or sub-genre, meh, whatever it is...)

Mel-Chan actually has an account on this website (though she never uses it >3<). Actually, she claims 'not to be into BL' but if you ask her what her favorite three manga are, she'll say:

1. Black Cat
2. Godchild
3. Let Dai

And then she'll continue to say, 'Loveless, Legal Drug, Earthian...etc'. So I don't think you could call her a homophobe, but I don't know if you could call her a BL fan either...

Pssh, but oh well. I think all of my friends are interested in it to some extent...

I haven't seen very many Yaoi manwha, come to think of it...Oh, are you a 'hardcore' fan? Oh, dumb question. It says so in your first post.

No, Black Cat isn't-

Oh, wait, what am I saying? Um, Black Cat isn't 'technically' BL, but there sure is a lot of hints in there. I think the only girl in the series that could be a potential love interest is dead, and Train himself says, "I wasn't in love with her, per say, I was in love with her way of life." Not only that, but one of the main villains, Creed, is creepily obsessed with Train. He kills anyone who hurts, gets close to, or takes Train away from him (the fact that Creed cut Train's arm off obviously doesn't count.

Yeah, so it's not 'BL' per say, but there are enough hints to maker it seem that way.

I have the sneaking suspicion that I'm going to run out of things to say sometime soon...Well, off the subject of Black Cat, what's your favorite pairing? Yaoi pairing, I mean. Mine is RikuSora, you know, from Kingdom Hearts (I think it's expressed in my icon that I'm in love with the game...)

I love KH, too. It's one of my fav games of all time. and it's definitely one of my biggest obsessions too haha

RikuSora's ok, but I'm all for AkuRoku. i ship both. but i'm kinda weirded out by SoraRoxas...

No I haven't read Junjou Romantica. Actually, most of my BL is softcore, with only the Yaoi being downloaded off of the Internet then deleted halfway through because I get embarrassed. I can't read them at the bookstore because, well, they're usually in plastic or with an insanely obvious sticker that practically blares out "Yaoi!". Slightly embarrassing if there is more than one other person in the isle (I only read them when someone else does).

It does sound very interesting, though. Junjou Romantica, that is. Any book that has a guy who writes steamy BL novels and is obsessed with teddy bears is pretty much awesome. SoraRoxas is kind of a weird pairing, but I don't see it as any different from AtemuYugi (YuGiOh) or AkitoAgito (Air Gear). Though Roxas is dead anyway.

Know what really weirds me out? Riku x Any other guy from Kingdom Hearts. Especially Leon or Cloud. Or Axel. Just...ewww.

Do you have a deviantart?? They have this new "trend" or whatever in the KH community-ish on dA for RikuRoku. When I first heard of that I was like O_O whoa! I mean, they never really even talk!

Junjou is actually not really explicit -- at ALL. I think the manga is supposed to be a little more explicit than the anime, but the anime is hardly anything. It's a lot of fluffy BL. But I think there are one or two scenes with implied *ahemahem* but they don't actually show anything.

I never even find yaoi titles in the bookstore! I mostly get my fix from online. XD

And yeah! AtemuYugi is a little weird... but Atemu is pretty hawt, so he can kinda get away with it lol

Pssh, where do you get your manga from? I shop at Border's, and Yaoi manga is abundant. That's where I read my BL, I can't download anything, manga or anime wise, because my computer has low disk space. So, basically, every five minutes a message pops up saying "You have low disk space!", and stops my server from running. Oh so annoying.

Has there been an American DVD release of Junjou Romantica? Then I can see it.

dude, yaoi is the best thing ever. just as good as the pure thought of anime. the ironic thing is my oh so innocent friend kitsune who still believes in cooties and isnt much into yaoi (she kinda is now though, only shonen ai and for a few couples she loves) but she got me into yaoi! she accidently printed out a yaoi fic and had miku and me read it, we were like O.O hellz yes!! XD

i love black cat, i find it funny how obssesed creed is with train, plus the way he dresses totally make you think hes gay.
